Ian & Carol Mills have graceously presented a beautiful silver cup to the Carnival.
Ian has passed on some history of the cup to us;
George Mills, was the original postmaster and shopkeeper at New Brinsley Post Office on Broad Lane. When Jack, his son was demobbed from the Forces in 1946, George retired and passed the Post Office to Jack who subsequently was elected to Brinsley Parish Council.
In 1960, Jack was a member of the Committee that decided to revive the Carnival, which had stopped on the outbreak of war in 1939.
As part of this, and as a tribute to his father, he presented the trophy for the Most Beautiful Baby competition.
We believe the carnival restarted in 1960 because Ian's father bought a mini van on which he placed speakers to advertise the event through the village.
At some point, the Carnival again stopped running and the Cup was returned to the Mills family who have now kindly re-silvered and restored it with the addition of Jack Mills’ name on the reverse, and re-presented it to the Carnival.
The carnival team have elected to present the cup as a trophy to the winner of the programme cover design.
