Brinsley Carnival

Newsletter Spring 2006

Hi All,

SANTA RUN

Well doesn’t time fly!!!!!  Only two minutes ago Santa was running around Brinsley waving to all the children and raising funds.  You may be interested to know that you kindly donated £613.50 which when added to the £140.00 raised at the Christmas raffle will be a huge help in funding this years Carnival.  Well done and a huge thank you from all of us on the Carnival Committee.

CARNIVAL 2006

Anyway here we are in February and there are only four months left to prepare for this year’s great Carnival.  There’s a lot to do, not least of which is to keep encouraging you to enter floats.  So how about we tempt you to do just that!

You may recall that in our last newsletter I mentioned that local businessman Jack O’Neill had offered a substantial amount of money for this years prize fund – I can now tell you that this amount was £1,000.00!!!!!!!!! What about that?

Jack feels very strongly about Brinsley and the Carnival and has made this gesture to keep the spirit of the Carnival alive.  He remembers, as many of us do, the days when the parade stretched the whole length of Church Lane with dozens of floats in a never-ending procession, and would dearly love to see that again.

As a result of this and after discussion with Jack we can confirm that the prizes on offer for winning floats this year will be as follows:

1st prize            £600.00
2nd prize           £350.00
3rd prize           £200.00
4th prize           £100.00
5th prize           £  75.00

We have allowed for five prizes to encourage more entrants into the parade, so, come on; get together and put your thinking caps on  it really is worth it. Your float could earn you £600.

In addition to the prize money we will be awarding the winning float The Violet O’Neill Memorial trophy which will be returnable each year, and re-presented to the new winner.  You can contact Dawn Potts on 07854 479102 for details of entrance forms and ideas on finding transport or, if preferred, you will soon be able to find out all the information you need on our new website, currently being developed.  The new address of the site will be www.brinsleycarnival.com and we are working to have it up and running as soon as possible.

HELP STILL WANTED !!!

It would be unfair to say that we haven’t swelled the ranks slightly but more Team members would be a huge help.  Many of our new members were completely stunned at just how much work is involved in organising the Carnival each year and, as the old saying goes, “many hands make light work” Our next meeting is on Thursday 23rd March at the White Lion, Brinsley so if any of you out there feel sorry for us please attend, or call Rita on 07976 801515 to register your offer of help.

Finally, we are scouring the Country to find new attractions for this year and can promise several interesting additions already, nor have we forgotten old favourites like the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.  We also noted that the traditional, super programme was sorely missed last year so we have reinstated it in all its glory (Mind you, as that is up to me, let’s not speak too soon!!!). We do need, however, to generate revenue to produce these programmes so for those of you with businesses expect to see me knocking at your doors some time soon to ask for sponsorship or advertising…Please!!!!!!!!!

Well folks, we’ll to see you on June 18th for another great Brinsley Carnival

Regards to you all

Brinsley Carnival Committee
