All New Carnival for 2007
New Parade
Unfortunately, due to vehicle insurance problems we no longer have access to lorries for floats. We are not worried though, because this year the Carnival Parade is a traditional walking procession, in fact several local groups have decided to enter this year just because there are no floats.
Leading as usual will be the Eastwood Arcadians Marching Band, the Carnival Queen with her entourage in an open top limo, and our VIP guests.
You now have NO excuses for not entering your group into the parade this year.... NO getting up at the crack of dawn to dress a float; NO worrying that your child may fall off, and NO more missing the carnival fun by having to clear the float.
Get your group together (10 or more people required), make a banner carrying the name of your group (simple really, use 2 clothes props, a white sheet and some paint or magic markers), go to www.brinsleycarnival.com, download an entry form and fill it in. No PC? No problem: ring us on 07976 801515, pop in or leave a note at 3 Church Walk.
If you’re part of a Karate club, scooter club, vintage car club, aerobics class, flower arranging group, Brownies, Guides or Scouts, get organised NOW!, Fill in the entry form and take part on the day. Remember, IT’S YOUR VILLAGE!
With the very generous gift again this year from local businessman Jack O’Neill, we will be awarding the Violet O’Neill trophy and several massive CASH prizes for the best groups in the parade.
New Parade Route
It’s a shorter route this year, assembling at Hall Lane 12.00 to 12.30 at the latest, judging of the entrants takes place at 12.45 and the parade moves off at 1.00pm. We will then proceed along Church Lane and enter the Carnival field via the car park entrance, to assemble in the Arena at 1.45pm for presentation of Fancy Dress and Parade prizes. The shorter route is due to a lot of the entrants being young children who couldn’t walk the traditional route, so get to Church Lane with your cameras and greet the parade as it passes.
Fancy Dress
Entry forms are on www.brinsleycarnival.com or by ringing 07976 801515. All ages are welcome, and judging takes place at the Robin Hood car park 12.30pm. Entrants are welcome to join the parade when it leaves at 1.00pm. We have babies & toddlers, junior, teenage, adult and small group sections for you to enter, with cash prizes in each.
Carnival Arena
We have several entertaining acts again this year, including a traditional Punch and Judy for the little ones; Polly & Jolly’s Comedy Taxi; the Samades Jugglers, and of course the fairground is open from Thursday evening. Plenty of stalls are booked again this year, with refreshments available both on the field and from the Church in the Parish Hall. Other attractions include: Dog show, Battle of Britain Flypast, School of Dance, Belly Dancers, and of course the display of local artistic talent that will be there for you to enjoy and judge.
Carnival Programme
This year’s cover is being designed by pupils at Brinsley School. We will be coming door to door during May and June selling programmes; please be generous. Entry to the Carnival Arena this year will be £2 for adults, 50p for pensioners and children aged 5 to 16, and this includes a FREE copy of our fabulous programme.
Good Causes
Brinsley Carnival supports Brinsley based volunteer groups. If yours wishes to benefit from Carnival funds, you MUST register with us before the end of September 2007. Come along and see us at the team tent near the stage. Each year we distribute as much money as we can, so make sure we know about your Group.
Help
The very small carnival team works all year to ensure our village has a carnival. Please help us to ensure next year’s carnival is possible. We hold meetings each month and they are advertised on our website, why not pop along and add your comments? We don’t bite and are so friendly you may wish to join us on a regular basis. |
